Overview
Since 1991, University of Georgia professor Milton Masciadri has organized the International Double Bass Symposium, inviting fellow double bass players from around the world to the Hugh Hodgson School of Music for this annual event which is held on the first weekend in February.
The symposium was an event for all levels of proficiency from beginners to professional performers, and attracted the highest caliber of clinicians from the world over. Over three days, participants enjoyed intensive master classes and recitals, culminating every night with a performance by Symposium artists. The Bass Symposium website was designed as an elegant, and informative event page for musicians and music lovers alike.

Creative Process
Concept Development
- The inspiration for the layout came from UGA’s classical concert posters and their study music abroad in Italy program—clean, minimal, and impactful. Emphasis was placed on visual clarity and thematic resonance with orchestral music..
Typography & Layoutt
- Typography: Large serif headings evoke tradition and formality, paired with modern sans-serif subtext for readability..
- Grid System: A single-column layout ensures maximum legibility across all devices.
- Whitespace: Strategic use of spacing keeps the design feeling open and professional, much like a formal concert program.
Color & Imagery
- The color palette relies on deep, moody tones with high contrast for drama and sophistication.
- A hero image of a bassist or concert hall serves as an emotional anchor, giving the page gravitas.
Challenges
- Above-the-Fold Messaging: It was important to communicate all essential event info instantly without overloading the user. This required visual restraint and careful content hierarchy.
- Responsiveness Across Devices: Ensuring the hero image, text, and button scale properly required fine-tuning of font sizes and padding via media queries.
Results
The Bass Symposium landing page succeeds in delivering a high-impact, low-friction user experience that reflects the tone and importance of the event. It demonstrates my ability to design purposeful layouts that blend classical design sensibility with modern web responsiveness.
